Who We Are

Our Team & Leadership

At Community, we believe every person has the capacity to be a “servant-leader.” With that in mind, every person who follows after Christ is a minister, called to some aspect of ministry. You’re invited to consider becoming a part of the ministry team.

Donna Boos

Donna Boos

Administrative Assistant

Since 2006, Donna Boos has been the cheerful voice greeting you over the phone and the face welcoming you to our office. Her history with Community runs deep. She began attending Sunday School and worship when she was 8 years old, becoming a member of Community in 1969.

In 1984 she began teaching Sunday School, eventually becoming Sunday School Superintendent. She was brought on board as Community’s Administrative Assistant in 2006. There’s not much that’s happened at Community that doesn’t have Donna’s fingerprints on it. She is the go-to person for information and getting things done. Donna’s desire is to share the love of Jesus and spread the Good News to everyone who walks through our open doors. And she does that very thing with JOY.

Pastor

Pastor Al Grimm’s Journey:

I am a retired member of the Western Pennsylvania Annual Conference. For the past 10 years I have been living in Stockton, CA with my wife Pat and close by our 2 sons Aaron and Jacob. Aaron is married to Kasia and they are Dad and Mom to Adam (12) and Nina (6). They live in Richmond.

I have to say we never thought we would move to California. However, our children had other ideas. In 2012 after our grandson was born in San Francisco, we decided that we could not be the kind of grandparents we wanted to be from such a great distance. Both of us had grandparents who were very influential in blessing our lives and we wanted to be a similar blessing to our children and grandchildren.

I recently met our new DS, Mary Maaga, and decided to send her a note to ask if I could be of service in our District. It was not long before she replied with an offer to serve ¼ time here in Valley Springs. I am delighted to have this opportunity to explore the possibilities for ministry with you here in Community. So, let the journey begin!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a United Methodist?

A United Methodist is someone who joins in that mission by putting faith and love into action. We believe that God loves all people, and that we share in expressing that love. So the United Methodist tradition emphasizes God’s grace and in serving others. We believe that Jesus Christ is the fullest expression of God’s love–showing us the fullness of God’s care through Jesus’ teachings, death and resurrection.

Do I have to be a member or Methodist to worship?

Our services are open to everyone. All of God’s children are welcome to participate in our ministries and programs.

What if I have not been to church in a long time?

Don’t let that keep you away. There was a first Sunday for all of us. Join in on the parts of the service you feel comfortable with, or just sit, watch and listen if you prefer.

What do United Methodists Believe?

The United Methodist Church shares a great deal with other Christian denominations. We believe God’s grace is open to all, and therefore practice “open Communion”–meaning that anyone may participate in receiving Communion. We believe salvation is an open gift from God, accepted by individuals according to their own free will. The United Methodist denomination is a “big tent” theologically, providing space for theological discourse and, at times, disagreement.
